This is a female Cobalt Blue African Cichlid named Cobol. One day in May 2003 I was at a Petco and some lady was picking out a fish and happened to choose the cichlid you see in these pictures. But when the Petco guy removed it from the tank it jumped out of the bowl and hit the floor pretty hard, bruising is head. The lady refused to take it and the Petco guy decided it was no good and had to be disposed of. So that's when I stepped in... and less than a week later the bruise was all gone and this hyper-active blue cichlid was like new.

African Cichlids are very territorial and aggressive. If you have more than one you have to have the right amount or the dominant ones will kill the rest... and then each other. For that reason I only have one, and one is all I need.

UPDATE: In November 2009, after six and a half years, Cobol died of Hexamita. RIP, you will not be forgotten.
